The Trauma Service of the Clinica Vistahermosa have been using for months and very effectively a blood recovery system in all larger surgeries, especially prosthetic surgery, total knee and hip.

The system consists on blood being collected by drain pipes, and which, through a very sophisticated filtering system can be re-transfused to the patient.

It allows us to reduce the percentage of patients that need to be transfused from the blood bank and patients with a potential major bleeding in the postoperative period, experience less loss of blood and therefore improve recovery and decrease complications such as infections.
