Dr. Enrique Martinez representing the Ankle and Foot Unit of Trauma at Clinica Vistahermosa-Alicante, has attended and participated in the Symposium of Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty of Foot and Ankle held in Madrid on 24-25 November, 2011, within the "I Forum Advanced Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology".
National and international experts have shown the latest trends and developments in arthroscopy of the ankle and subtalar joint, for solving pathologies that few years ago were unthinkable to be addressed by this method. These techniques are applicable to sports injuries and traumatics especially affecting the ankle, with a faster patient recovery time compared with open techniques.
Concerning the ankle prosthesis, the experts show that the latest models are more durable than the previous ones, and can be applied to many cases of ankle osteoarthritis secondary to previous fracture or rheumatic processes with good clinical results.
These novel methods have been practiced by the participants in clinical specimens of Anatomy, at the Faculty of Medicine, San Pablo-CEU in Madrid, which allows participating surgeons to gain more skill and experience in these advanced surgical techniques to benefit patients.
