The anterior cruciate ligament is a tough, fibrous band that connects the shinbone (tibia) to the thighbone (femur) and it prevents the femur from moving forward.
ACL injuries are common amongst athletes and are caused by sudden twists while the foot is still on the ground or by stopping suddenly.
ACL injuries have no healing ability, and are not usually repaired using suture to sew it back together, because repaired ACLs have generally been shown to fail over time
ACL surgery is done by arthroscopy by making two or three small incisions in the knee. Significant advances in arthroscopic techniques allow us to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament of the patient more anatomically and therefore get better results.
