Usually it is not possible to keep the torn portion of meniscus and a partial meniscectomy must be performed. This intervention only removes the damaged zone of the meniscus retaining the stable remains. The reasons that may prevent meniscus suture are two: the situation of the break in an avascular area of the meniscus or the complexity of the lines of rupture, preventing a stable suture. This technique is performed by arthroscopic surgery and the patient usually does not need more than a few hours in the clinic, not needing to stay overnight.
