"Pes Cavus" foot can be observed by abnormal wear of the shoe and is characterized by an increase in the plantar arch. It can be caused by a neurological disease, or due to an unjustified cause, then we have idiopathic pes cavus.
There are several types of pes cavus, so a correct diagnosis through a complete neurological examination is essential in order to discard neurological causes. At an early age the treatment is focused on relieving symptoms: stretching exercises, insoles and appropriate footwear. Surgical treatment, if necessary, will have to be postponed until the growth process is complete.
