Dupuytren's contracture usually starts with a thickening of the skin of the palm, which can be converted into a lump or a thick band that can cause contraction of the fingers toward the palm. The hand function decreases, and the affected fingers will retract.
The only treatment available is surgery: The surgeon makes an incision in the hand dividing the thickened area, which causes the tendons to be released thus recovering the mobility of the fingers.
