It is the loss of the joint space between the acromion and the end of the clavicle. It is usually caused by a sudden trauma, but may also be due to a degenerative process. It is a very common cause of shoulder pain.
Treatment can be:
- Conservative: moderate rest, anti-inflammatory treatment and rehabilitation exercises. The injection of steroids is very successful.
- Surgical: arthroscopy is performed by resection of the tip of the clavicle, thereby restoring the joint space.
